You want to spend under $100 up-front
If you can't or don't want to spend more than $100 on air purifiers at the present time, here are a few suggestions on products that will deliver the biggest bang for the buck. 1) Invest in 12 MERV 11 home furnace filters and change them ever 3 months. That will give you almost 3 years of major dust collection in your home. The HVAC fan is more powerful than any air purifier on the market and using a MERV 11 filter is the backbone of any indoor air quality defense. 2) Buy Nano TiO2 PCO liquid and apply it on your furnace filters, air purifier pre-filters, windows, bathrooms, kitchen, anywhere exposed to a lot of sun, around toilets, your car, fabrics, mini blinds, furniture, kitchen counters, floor tiles, etc. Photocatalytic oxidation creates friendly oxidizers that will remove VOC's from the air. VOC's are the most dangerous indoor air quality concern.
You can spend $100-$200 up-front
If you can't or don't want to spend more than $100-200 on air purifiers at the present time, we suggest: 1) 12 MERV 11 filters. (see above) 2) TiO-2 PCO Solution. (see above) 3) Ionic Zone IZ-270's for $39.99 and 250 ml bottle of TiO-2 PCO Solution. . (see above).
You can spend $200-$300 up-front
See above for some great suggestions for solutions from $100-$200. At the $300 price range you can also consider getting the "whole home" IZ-270 UVC induct unti plus TiO-2 PCO Solution or an Austin Air Jr series HEPA machine. The 3000 sq. ft Air Oasis Xtreme is also a great choice for $276.75
You can spend $300-$500 up-front
Buy 12 MERV 11 filters, TiO-2 PCO Solution, and a UVC Induct air sanitizer, and a few IZ-270 silent air purifiers for the bedrooms. That is the best value option.
Over $600
If you can spend $700, we believe the best air purification machines on the market in the NQ Clarifier for $699, the Airpura I-600 for $549, the entire Austin Air line, and the Air Oasis line. The smartest choice is to buy a large capacity HEPA machine to filter the air, an Air Oasis or Airfee to kill viruses, VOC's, and mold, and several IZ-270's for the bedroom. If you have an AC system, you should also consider the IZ-UV72 induct unit.
If you smoke indoors, we recommend the Air Oasis Xtreme, the Airpura T600, and our Tio-2 PCO Solution is a great choice.
You want to spend under $50 yr for filters and electricity.
Okay, so you're frugal. That doesn't make you a bad person....well, maybe to corporate America it does, but not here.
The best solution, Tio-2 PCO Solution and MERV 11 furnace filters, you're done, forget-about-it! The Airfree doesn't require any UV lamps and only cost $40-$50 a year of electricity to operate if you run it 24/7. Air Oasis UV air purifiers cost $30-$47 a year in electricity plus $50-$60 every 3 years for the replacement UV bulb, so that would also be within your budget.
You want to spend $50-$100 yr for filters and electricity.
You'll spend over $100 to go to a ball game, dinner, or club but you only want to spend $100 on your health? Come on ...where are your priorities? Anyway, you only want to spend $50-$100 a year on your air purifiers filters and electricity, what are your choices? See the examples above and multiply by 2...or...there you can always opt for a high performance HEPA machine that run on 100 watts or under, the NQ Clarifier and the Austin Air Healthmate come to mind. Their filters don't need to be changed for several years. If you run those 12 hours a day, you'd spend under $50 a year in electricity and if you can go 5 years without a filter change ($250 or so), then you'd hit your $100 a year mark. Same goes with UV induct air sanitizers run 12 hours a day plus $40 to replace the two UVC 36 watt lamps every year. You should also consider Tio-2 PCO Solution and MERV 11 filters.
You want to spend $100-$150 yr for filters and electricity.
Now we're getting into a reasonable budget for your replacement filters and electricity usage. We carry a lot of air cleaners that use under 100 watts of electricity and feature long lasting filters (or no filters). The IZ-270 uses only 5 Watts, the Airfree uses 47 watts but doesn't need replacement filters or bulbs, the Air Oasis runs on 30-47 watts and only requires a bulb change ever 3 years ($50-$60). The NQ Clarifier and Healthmate HEPA machines run on under 100 watts and features long lasting filters. If you only run a one or two units, you can get buy on this budget with some careful planning up-front. Then again, you should also consider Tio-2 PCO Solution and MERV 11 filters.
You can spend Over $150 yr for filters and electricity.
Perfect! You're out kind of person! Spend a few shekels on the health of your family. Budget your money so that you take care of the important things first. Ensure your kids are breathing clean air by putting an Airfree in their rooms, a UV or UVC in duct air sanitizer in your HVAC system, and a quality HEPA machine in your living area(s). Sure, it might cost you $200-$300 a year on average on electricity and replacement filters, UV lamps, but you can't put a price on living healthy and ensuring the health of your children, can you. You should also strongly consider Tio-2 PCO Solution and MERV 11 filters.
Your current indoor air quality problem is causing you
medical expenses, lost work time, and lost productivity.
Most of the time, if you're getting sick from indoor air, the problem is mold, VOC's or bacteria in your HVAC system, your home, or at work/ school etc. The first thing you should do is install an in duct UVC air sanitizer to kill any mold or bacteria that are probably living in your coils. Cost: $219. Then you should consider the Airfree, Air Oasis, NQ Clairifer, and Tio-2 PCO Solution. The Airfree is perfect for bedrooms as is the Air Oasis mini and the IZ-270.
Our immune systems are usually all we need to keep us healthy, so you may also want to consider your diet and supplement with essential fatty acids and vitamins as well as fiber rich food. If you're really sick, take a look at our ozone therapy page for some great info.
I have children and our current indoor air quality problem is affecting them.
If you have children, especially very young children, and they're constantly getting sick or constantly have a runny nose, chances are your indoor air quality is the culprit since we spend most of the day indoors. Getting them help should be your top priority.
The first thing you should consider getting after you invest in MERV 11 filters and Tio-2 PCO Solution is a Hyla vacuum. Kids spend a lot of time on the carpet and if you don't have a Hyla, they're constantly kicking up dust and allergens. The Hyla will suck-up dust from under your carpets, you can even use it to remove allergens from your beds, and best of all will not allow fine particles to exit the machine (problem with bag vacuums) and even doubles as an air purifier!
Once you have the carpet situation under control, it's time to take control of the air. We sell several units that kill airborne viruses and microorganisms. If you have central air, your first choice will be the Ionic Zone IZ-UV72 in duct air sanitizer. That UV system fits in your duct work, above your coils which are usually moist with condensation (a breeding bed for mold and bacteria) Many times, "sick homes" have mold growing in this region of their HVAC system. The IZ-UV72 has two 16', 36W UVC bulbs (no ozone). It creates a "kill zone" so that anything passing through your HVAC system is eradicated. It turns on when your HVAC fan is on, so you can opt to run your HVAC fan all the time to keep this system sterilizing the air.
Your next choice should be the Airfree air sanitizers for the kids rooms. Put on in the living area and perhaps the smaller on in the kids room. Air Oasis also sells a UV air sanitizer, the $149 model is perfect for kids bedrooms.
For dust collection and creating a "clean room", buy the NQ Clarifier ($700). That is the best air cleaner in the world. It has two UV lamps, advanced filtration, and best of all it only runs on 100W of electricity so the operating cost is low. The NQ Clarifier will filter the air in a 440 sq. ft room over 6 times an hour, double the nearest competitor. (can treat an area as large as 1500 sq. ft and turn the air several times per hour in that large an area)
Childhood asthma is on the rise mostly because a lot of people have indoor air quality while their children are very young which effects the way their lungs develop. Providing a clean air environment for your children will not only pay off now, it will have lasting results for the health of your children, and that's something you just can put a price tag on.
I don't have children
Your own health is important, you can't function well when you're sick, but it's not as important as ensuring the health of children. Make a plan to address your indoor air quality issues, make a budget, and take care of it in stages if you wish depending on how important your health is to you and how much your indoor air quality issues are messing with your work and love life.
Main objective: Getting rid of odors and or cigarette smoke.
The best way to address odors and cigarette smoke is with TiO2 liquid and the Air Oasis Xtreme. The Xtreme has a patented photocatalytic oxidation technology to rid the air of odors and smoke.
Main objective: Making sure the air you breath is virus, bacteria, and mold free.
This one is easy. Get the IZ-UV72 In duct air sanitizer. That unit put's out over 24,000 microwatt's of UVGI to create a "kill zone" in your HVAC system. It also keeps your coils mold and bacteria free. You should also buy at least one Airfree Platinum 2000 air sanitizer for your main living area and a few of the Air Oaisis mini's for your bedrooms. Air Oasis technology is also highly effective against viruses and mold as is our Tio-2 PCO Solution.
Main objective: Getting rid of dust and allergens.
HEPA technology is far and away the best way of getting rid of airborne dust and allergens. We have over 60 units to choose from. The best allergy machines use little or no carbon and 100 sq ft of HEPA material, for instance the Airpura I-600. The Austin Air Allergy Machine uses a special carbon filter that allows great air flow and is probably the best all around choice.
Main objective: Addressing a respiratory problem such as asthma or allergies.
The first thing you should do is utilize MERV 11 filters and Tio-2 PCO Solution. A lot of times allergies are caused by mold and pathogens that linger in the air. If you suffer from asthma, you should stay away from the ozone producing air purifiers and buy the Airfree Platinum 2000 for your main living area and the Air Oasis Mini for your bedrooms. You should also buy HEPA machines to collect dust. If you have over 1000 sq. ft of open living area, the NQ Clarifier is the all around value even though it cost $700. That would be the ultimate. We also sell several $200-$500 HEPA machines that can take care of smaller living areas. (400-1000 feet)
Main objective: All of the above.
1) TiO-2 PCO Solution and MERV 11 filters. 2) UVC in duct air sanitizer to keep the coils virus and bacteria free. 3) Air Oasis mini in 100-150 sq. ft bedrooms and the Airfree P1000 150-400 sq. ft bedrooms. 4) NQ Clarifier, Allerair HEPA, or Austin Air HEPA machines for the larger living areas. 5) Air Oasis 3000 (will seek and destroy airborne pathogens) or the Airfree Platinum 2000 (will sanitize the air in your main living area over a several day period of time) for an added lawyer of protection.
Silent operation is very important to me.
We carry a number of silent air purifiers. The most silent, Tio-2 PCO Solution and Airfree. The Ionic Zone IZ-270 has an ultra silent fan ...makes less noise than fan-less ionizers. The Air Oasis line is very silent as well.
HEPA technology requires a fan to pull air through filters, but most have a low setting with very low noise, 28dbs for instance for the Austin Air line of air cleaners. And by all means, don't fall for the Ionic Breeze or Ionic Pro's TV hype! Do yourself a favor and read the Consumer Reports write-up on those units if you haven't already.
Silent operation is somewhat important to me.
Does it bother you when your AC or heating system kicks in? If the answer is no, then mostly all of the HEPA air cleaner models we carry are worthy of your consideration. They make the same amount of noise as rushing air exiting your room vents when your HVAC system is operating, or less, when run on the low setting. The most silent machines are the NQ Clarifier, the Austin Air Jr series. The "whole home" Air Oasis Xtreme and 3000 models have fans but they are very silent, under 15 dbs.
Silent operation is not important at all to me.
That's one of the great things about being hard of hearing! High powered HEPA machines in every room baby!
I need something that fits in a small space.
Tio-2 PCO Solution applied to MERV 11 furnace filters and around your home obviously will clean the air without taking up any space. The Ionic Zone IZ-270 has a very small footprint, 3" x 6". They also sell a HEPA Ionizer table top HEPA machine that can be placed upright or laying down. Both can fit on tables, on top of TV's, etc. Same thing goes for the Air Oasis and Airfree units. The last two should only be considered if you smoke or have a lot of pet odors in your home.
It can't be a huge unit, but it doesn't have to be a table top model
The smaller Allerair HEPA machines such as the Airtube and 3000 series don't take-up that much space. The Airfree Platinum and Air Oasis models purify the air in all of your living areas (not rooms). If you smoke, the Air Oasis Xtreme is the perfect model for you.
I have a lot of living area and I can find a spot for just about anything.
We sell over 20 different HEPA machines. Decide on the one that fits your budget and needs and put it in a central location and you're all set!
If you still need help deciding on the right air purification device, give us a call toll free at 1-888-587-8430 and one of our helpful air quality experts will be more than happy to chat with you and ask the right questions in order to find your perfect machine. P.S. There's a website called Air Purifiers Superstore that has an air purifier message board for reviews. They're not open for business yet but once they get going, it will be interesting to read what their customers say about all of the different air purifier brands. |
