Shock Treatments
SHOCK TREATMENTS: A common standard for mold and smoke remediation contractors who utilize ozone generators for "shock treatments" to remediate smoke, mold,and odors is to use multiple machines throughout a residence, 1000 milligrams of oozne for every 100 square feet area (10ft high ceilings) In order to completely remove smoke damage or kill mold, it will take 6 hours of ultra high ozone concentrations such as the ozone level reached with 1000 mg per 100 sq ft.
The IZ-8000TT produces "shock" levels of ozone in rooms up to 800 sq. ft. For larger rooms, we recommend 2 units or shocking areas room by room. During the winter, you can get away with shocking larger areas as ozone does not dissipate (break down) at temperatures below 30-40 degrees. It just continues to build-up. At slightly higher temperatures it takes hours to break down. Thus, one IZ-8000MGT can deliver enough ozone to shock a 3000 sq. ft residence within 12 hours if you first allow your residence to cool down to 55 degrees or so. To air out after the ozone shock treatment, simply run your furnace until the temps reach the mid 70's. Ozone will dissipate in the 70's within 40 minutes. You can also opt to open the windows before running the furnace.
Precautions: Federal law requires you post a "hazard: sign on all doors leading to an area that is being shocked with ozone in a business complex as to keep any unknowing person from entering the premises. We have our own suggestions that will help with your shock treatment:
1) First remove all live plants and anything that contains a lot of soft rubber. If you have expensive stereo speakers with rubber cones, remove them. Most hard plastic is ozone resistant for quite long periods of time.
2) Tape shut the air vents to keep the ozone in the desired area.
3) Tape shut the bottom of the door as well. Duct tape or painters tape works best. The goal is to seal off the room. 4) Right after the shock treatment is over, air things out and turn on the heater (or allow area to become warm) to open everything up and remove any residual ozone smell.
PET UNRINE ODOR REMOVAL: Pet urine is among the most difficult odors to remediate. Here's how: Shock the room with the urine for 6-12 hours. If the urine is concentrated to small parts of the your, you can opt to build an "ozone box" first to do the job. You can create an ozone box out of a 4' x 8' piece of plywood (1/2 inch thick) and some 2" x 2's. Make a box that is 3' x 3' x 1' high. Place the box over the urine damaged carpet with the IZ-8000MGT inside then place heavy objects such as several cinder blocks (at least 100 lbs total) over the ozone box. Run the IZ-8000TT for 3 hours. Ozone levels will reach very high levels in this small enclosure and penetrate deep under the carpet to the cement and oxidize the urine odors. By the way, this urine removal trick works like a charm with either of our ozone machines.
